Biography
Dr. Mohamed Rashwan is a professional engineer with over 40 years of experience in HVDC and FACTS. His expertise is in the areas of equipment specifications and design, economic assessment of projects, project execution, O&M, witnessing of factory tests, commissioning & system tests, and integration of HVDC and FACTS into the power system.

After working for Manitoba Hydro for 25 years in the HVDC Engineering Department, Mohamed co-founded TGS in 2002.

Dr. Rashwan is current chair of Cigre study committee B4 “HVDC and power electronics”.

In 2010, he was the recipient of the prestigious IEEE PES Uno Lamm HVDC award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to HVDC technology. The technology has developed into an effective power system tool for long-distance energy transport, ac network interconnections, and system stability enhancement. These developments have come from the work of dedicated engineers and scientists in many countries throughout the world.

Biografía
Ramón León lidera actualmente la iniciativa de Gestión Inteligente de Energía en Interconexión Eléctrica S.A. (ISA), evaluando y desarrollando nuevos modelos de negocios para la aplicación de conceptos de Recursos Energéticos Distribuidos y de Almacenamiento de Energía en el portafolio de la compañía en Latinoamérica. Previamente se desempeñó como Ejecutivo Senior de la Gerencia de Nuevos Negocios en XM S.A., a cargo del desarrollo y la estructuración de nuevas oportunidades de negocios, basados en la gestión avanzada de sistemas y plataformas transaccionales en tiempo real. Vinculado al Grupo ISA desde 1997, tiene 18 años de experiencia en la planeación estratégica de sistemas de energía, el gerenciamiento de proyectos de investigación y desarrollo de alta tecnología, y la estructuración de emprendimientos corporativos basados en innovación. El Ingeniero León ha sido además consejero del Programa Nacional de Investigación en Energía y Minería de COLCIENCIAS.

Ramón es Ingeniero Electricista de la Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar y Máster en Ingeniería Eléctrica de Iowa State University, EEUU, donde atendió gracias a una beca Fulbright-Colciencias. Tiene un diplomado en Investigación de Operaciones de la Universidad Nacional y un certificado en Protección de Sistemas de Potencia de la Universidad de Wisconsin en Madison, EE. UU.

Javier Rosero Garcia

He received his BSC in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad of Valle, Cali, Colombia, in 2002. He worked for construction and maintenance of power systems and substations in Bogotá, Colombia, between 2002 and 2004.

He received a Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in 2007. Dr Rosero received the IEEE AESS Harry Rowe Mimno award for excellence in technical communications for 2007 from the Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) IEEE 2007.

He worked with Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), Barcelona, Spain, from 2007 to 2009 providing service and technical support for drives for industrial and windmill systems. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Universidad Nacional de Colombia’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department in Bogota. Dr. Rosero has published more than 40 referred journal and conference papers.

Dr. Rosero is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, International Society of Automation, ISA.

His research interests are focused on the areas of modelling, diagnosis and control of electrical machines and drives, Energy Management, electric movility and smart grids.

Conferencia: Manejo de riesgos en políticas públicas del diseño de sistemas de energía


Biografía
Dr. Patiño-Echeverry se centra en sus investigaciones en diseño de políticas publicas para sistemas energéticos, con un énfasis en particular en el manejo de los riesgos que puedan presentarse de las incertidumbres que influyen en los resultados de las acciones del gobierno. Gran parte de su trabajo actual se centra en las políticas que afectan a las decisiones de inversión de capital dentro de la industria eléctrica y los costos correspondientes para la sociedad de la electricidad y de los niveles de emisiones de aire. Sus modelos exploran los efectos de las diferentes políticas gubernamentales que representa las decisiones de la industria bajo incertidumbres sobre futuros avances tecnológicos, precios de combustibles y regulaciones de emisiones.

Obtuvo licenciatura y M.Sc. en ingeniería industrial de la Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia y el Ph.D. en ingeniería y políticas públicas de la Universidad de Carnegie Mellon. Durante el año académico 2018-2019, la profesora Patiño-Echeverry visito la universidad Duke Kunshan en China, donde continua un proyecto para caracterizar la incertidumbre sobre la demanda futura de electricidad en China, y estudio las opciones regulatorias y de diseño de mercado para el sector de la energía eléctrica China.

Damir Novosel

Dr. Damir Novosel, President, Quanta Technology Expert, has over 30 years of experience working with electric utilities and vendors. Damir has created and managed several reputable and successful organizations that developed innovative technology and industry best practices in various areas of power systems. Previously, he was vice president of ABB Automation Products and president of KEMA T&D US. He has led development and implementation of pioneering concepts, methods, and products that improved reliability and efficiency of power grids.

Damir is elected to National Academy of Engineers in 2014. Dr. Novosel, an IEEE Fellow, serves as IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) President and was IEEE PES VP of Technology. Damir is also member of the CIGRE US National Committee and received the CIGRE Attwood Associate award.

Damir holds 17 US and international patents and published over 100 articles in Transactions, Journals and Proceedings, receiving IEEE PES 2011 and 2013 Prize Paper Awards. He has led or participated in numerous IEEE standards, publications and other initiatives. He co-authored a paper in IEEE Spectrum on "Getting a Grip on the Grid" and contributed to four books, including McGraw-Hill Yearbook of Science and Technology. Dr. Novosel has contributed to a number of IEEE and CIGRE tutorials, guides, standards, reports and other publications. Damir has been a keynote speaker, invited presenter, and a panelist at a number of IEEE, CIGRE, and IEEE conferences and panels presenting topics on sustainable energy, power system automation, and power grid management, etc. One month after the August 2003 North-East blackout, he was invited to be a panelist at the T&D Show in Dallas on Power System Blackouts. The Washington Post interviewed Dr. Novosel on blackouts.

Conferencia: La nueva era de la energía


Biography
A graduate of Ecole Centrale de Paris, Philippe ADAM began his career at EDF in 1980 as a research engineer in the HVDC field and participated in the studies and testing of outstanding projects such as the Cross Channel 2000 MW link and the first multi-terminal DC link , between Sardinia, Corsica and Italy. After this pioneering period, he led the engineering team in charge of the HVDC and FACTS studies of EDF's R&D division. During this period, his CIGRE membership as an expert of a working group and then as a convener of a working group on Study Committee 14, was genuine support for his professional activities. He then held several management positions in EDF's Generation and Transmission division in the fields of substation engineering, network planning, transmission asset management and international consulting until 2000. When RTE, the French TSO was created in 2000, he was appointed finance manager and management control department, to install this corporate function and the necessary tools.

In 2004, he contributed to the creation of RTE's international activities as project manager first and then as deputy director of the international relations department. From 2011 to 2014 he was Director of Infrastructure and Technology Strategy of the Medgrid Industrial initiative.

In the meantime, between 2002 and 2012 he served CIGRE as Secretary of the Technical Committee and as Secretary and Treasurer of the French National Committee from 2009 to 2014. He was appointed Secretary General of CIGRE in March 2014.
